put it this way: this year I HAD THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER.
it would have been even better if i had more time and if i had my old home and my family as well...
previous christmases spent in singapore were not rah rah events. jus a more extravagant dinner than usual with family frens. but this one was much more eventful and in many ways, more meaningful.
christmas, a period to celebrate love, family, frenship, laughter, joy and peace. in past years, all this was ever-present, taken for granted, and never treasured and savoured as they should be.
I guess when I left home, it finally did hit home. but was it too late? nope. because I gained this understanding and appreciation of these six ideals that I would never have truly comprehended if I didn’t leave home.
I realised I nvr really talked abt how leaving felt. leaving tore a big hole in me. it made me realise that the frens we have are special, and not just any tom, dick, mary, jane or harry. meeting ppl here only confirmed that. its not that ppl here are bad, they are jus different. i have spent nights tossing around, thinking of home. I hav cried badly. the pain I felt when I left, is something I will vividly remember for a long time. its not jus the pain of leaving frens, it’s the pain of leaving home, of leaving something that is familiar and dear to u. everything was going so smoothly in Singapore and I had to go. I had settled into college well, I was doing okie in terms of studies (that’s looking at o’s! haha my jc work was like shit!!), I had great frens since donkey years (caleb, benny, herngliang, ian, shane, jus to name a few…), and tho I didn’t know the ppl I met in jc long, I cant explain it, but we bonded so well and I met these ppl that are frens worth keeping (stef, tina, Kevin, rong, fawn, sherlynn, jus to name a few again...), and then there were those I knew quite well before but got really close to in jc (Malcolm, joel, I daresay even liangsheng!! lol…). I had to throw away everything and start afresh. i often asked myself WHY? why isit when I am soaring so high in the sky that I hav to be pulled down and back to earth to start again? I know this is a WEIRD analogy but I think it’s the simplest and most easily understood one.
anyway, if I hadn’t left, I wldnt be appreciating and loving my frens like I do now. when u realised the time u hav is short, u jus thank god that u can still spend any time with them. and the time spent is bittersweet.
its quite hard to enjoy myself actually. feeling sad is smth I hav grown accustomed to. not really sad sad. but jus a longing feeling. meeting everyone in Singapore was so good. but when I see them, I only get reminded of me being away frm them for the nxt yr or so? either way, u jus cant win in this situation can u? I can only cut my losses. which means I try my darnest to enjoy my time there. think abt the sad bits later.
okie but now I am simply rambling. but this Christmas I really experienced all six ideals. I had frens that were so willing to offer me accommodation, frens who were prepared to spend time with me, frens that wanted to make my days in Singapore as happy and memorable as it could be. I spent time with relatives in hk, sitting down and having a meal and simply talking and catching up. I experienced such peace again, walking arnd in Singapore without the fear of getting mugged or anything. joy was plentiful, from the moment I set shore, I experienced that for much of my visit. I had plenty of laughs too! as pete would testify!! ;p.
oh well…maybe I didn’t experience love love. haha. as in LOVE LOVE. but oh well…that would come. until then I am satisfied with family and fren love! haha. I seriously think I need to go back to Singapore when I am 30 to look for a girlfren man. all the things I am looking for in a partner are more easily found in Singapore than here. but oh well. I am in no hurry yet. ahha. taking my time still! :p
there are so many ppl I want to thank…for making my Christmas wonderful. here goes:
caleb: ahha. what would life be without him. when theres someone I need to call to chat and talk kok, it was always him. he took so much time out to organise soccer, and everythin. first person I saw when I walked out of the airport. I daresay he is my better half. haha. :) not that we are gay. but I wldnt mind being gay with a person like him. I cant thank u enough. jus for being u, u made my trip that more memorable. hope to see u here someday, where it can be my turn to look aft u properly! ;P
herngliang: ahha. so much laughs with this guy. eh pete? aaa well. u idiert. spraining ur ankle. cannot play soccer. but still he turns up and sits on the pitch with an umbrella for 2+ hrs. jus watching us play. jus to be with me for my last few days. jus to spend time. what more can I ask of a fren. thanks for everythin. and for all the laughs at malcolm’s house also. HAHAH. my goodness. VOMIT!!! lol…jus brilliant la. and playin bridge at joel’s house. that was dam good and funny also!! I wish u best of luck…and cya again someday.
shane: this guy. from p4. until now. every holiday without fail, there will be sleepovers either at his or at mines. and this holiday was no different. even when I stayed at other ppl’s, I left my suitcase at his! haha. his family was accommodating as usual, and I am glad to see shane is still as funny and gay as eva! so glad u met Kevin as well. can hang out together. made it more special and fun. but we were dam gay la. 4 ppl sleep on two beds. wah lau. haha. but it brought back happie gay memories eh! haha. thanks for everything too shane…and I look forward to the day u come visit.
steffie: haha. my angmoh sibling! aaaa. what more do I need to say. tho we barely know each other for a year, I dare say we are like greatest buds and all man! thanks for coming all the way to the airport. amazing. and for the alcoholic gift! I still hav it! and I will wear my frenship band with pride. knowing that I share it with a fren like u. and the three rings, i need to find a choker. haha!! then I will wear it with pride too! dun forget out mosquito experience! and thanks for organising everythin again! tina: everytime I have a long conversation with u, I emerge stronger, more comprehensive and loving u more! thanks for all the advise u so freely dispense. u really should charge for it! cos u will earn a fortune! ur actions always make brings a smile to me (ommm bahhh!!) and I am glad that I hav met u in my life. thanks too for spending late nights with me at wayniqs and at esplanade, when sleep was so much more needed. this frenship band wldnt come off tilll it breaks. one day I will come ur house. dun forget that man. haha!! one day!! J thanks for everything. and I hope we’ll see each other soon.
Kevin: came back from indo early. sleepovers at shanes. talks with ur auntie. topspins. I barely know u 7 mths? something liddat. but still..i really think u are great! thanks for coming back early. that meant a lot to me. and coming to see me at the airport. ur dye hair is nice la.
